I moved to Knoxville several years ago from NY State, the part that is mostly farms. My parents have now retired and would like to move south. When I first moved down here, I met a lot of people who were mean to me because of my "Yankee" accent. I do not want my parents to experience this. Can someone please recommend any areas in E. TN which are more open to new people. My mom is also interested in college courses and museums, so they would be a plus if they are within driving distance. Thank you to anyone that can help. I still don't know most of the area well.

I wouldn't sweat it in Johnson City. I grew up in Ct and very much sound Yankee and I've had no problem making friends or being accepted in the business community.

Like anywhere else, if they come and adapt to the culture without trying to make and compare everything like "back home" they'll probably be fine.

Having conservative principals helps too.

Take a look into Rogerville, it's filled with history and offers a small town atmosphere.
