Go into the cow pasture and if the cows are not close by, jump up and down and wave your arms to get their attention. Then lie on your back on the ground and wait. The cows will come and gather around you in a circle. They are very curious animals.
Then they will steal your kidney . . .

Seriously, a cow is about as harmless a creature that there is (except for an angry bull, or unless they step on your foot). No one has EVER been chased down and eaten by a cow. ;-)

and those that have been chased down aren't around to tell us about it, now are they?

I loved the old Alfred Hitchcock move The Cows, where a small farming community in Pennsylvania is suddenly attached by herds of Herefords for no apparent reason. Gave me nightmare as a child whenever I ate a cheeseburger.

Exclamation Never, ever run in a cow pasture!!!

Whatever you do, never run in a cow pasture! You will lose your shoes for sure! Cows set up shoe traps that don't smell good.

I think they are getting retribution for alleycat's matching purse and pumps. They take them back.

I'm a little weird. I like the smell of that stuff.

Of course living in NJ we don't get much of it around these parts. But I grew up in upstate NY and lived down the road from a dairy farm. Love the smell of cow pucky!

Same here, but in north PA. Chicken farms, too. Talk about your poo-ee factor! They are the winners!

Don't feel bad. My best friend when I was a kid had a horrible cow phobia. We lived in a dairy town in CT, where shortcuts to anywhere were going to take you through cow fields. They ARE curious and will always amble over in a group, but it takes them forever. You could cross the field a couple of times before they'd get to you.

Anyway, my best childhood buddy had to check under her bed every night to make sure there was no (I'm not making this up) COW hiding there. To this day they give her the creeps. I think it's that slow but steady group approach. Kind of a "Night of The Living Dead" thing.

They're sweet and harmless. What a fun stop during a walk with your kids!
