This is fantastic news. The craft beer industry has been on the verge of exploding in Tennessee -- and this was one of the things holding it back.

This is definitely one example where I think cutting/modernizing the tax will be very beneficial to business and job creation.

Now all we need to do is eliminate that stupid law that forces high gravity beers to be sold in liquor stores.

Wow, didn't know we had the highest taxes on beer in the country. Then again, I don't really drink anymore.

Old south making way for the new. Most alcohol taxation and blue laws are based on everyone going to church in Sunday, and the old church ladies not wanting their husbands to date.

No more 12 dollar six packs

And I thought Colorado was bad at $9.something per six pack of craft beer.

(But it is soooooo good!)

It depends on the type of beer. You can get some pretty solid craft beers for $7-9 here...but some of the more high end brands can go for $10-13.

The other issue is that our craft scene is split between grocery/convenience stores and liquor stores. I forget the exact cutoff, but it's around 6.3% ABV. Anything above that has to be sold in a liquor store...and typically they are more expensive (6 packs usually start at $10 there).

And anything below that level CAN'T be sold in the liquor store. So if I want some arrogant bastard, I can buy that at the liquor store, along with my wine and whiskey. If I want a six pack of Oberon, I have to go to publix.

Stupid liquor laws

Exactly. Tennessee is more than an overdue for a liberalization of its alcohol laws. High gravity beer and wine, at a minimum, should be sold in regular groceries. When I lived in IA, hard liquor was sold at regular grocery stores as well, and it's not like it was ever a problem. Liquor stores are inefficient and a relic of the past.
