Okay, a little change in the forecast...

I'm thinking ice.

...WINDY CONDITIONS AND LIGHT SNOWFALL POSSIBLE BY SUNDAY...

A STRENGTHENING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE NORTHEAST INTO THE TENNESSEE RIVER VALLEY BY THIS EVENING... BRINGING WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS. STRONG SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS WILL DESCEND THE MOUNTAIN SLOPES TODAY AND WILL LIKELY KEEP MOST RAIN FROM AFFECTING THE GREAT TENNESSEE VALLEY UNTIL LATER THIS AFTERNOON TOWARDS SUNSET. THESE STRONG UPPER LEVEL WINDS WILL GRADUALLY SHIFT TO THE WEST LATER TONIGHT...AND WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE IN THE VALLEYS BY SUNDAY...AS MUCH COLDER AIR MOVES INTO THE REGION AND TEMPERATURES FALL THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

RAIN WILL GRADUALLY CHANGE TO SNOW TOWARDS SUNRISE ON SUNDAY... INITIALLY ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. IT APPEARS RIGHT NOW THAT MOST MOISTURE WILL EXIT THE REGION BEFORE THE SUB- FREEZING AIR ARRIVES. HOWEVER...A LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATION OF ONE TO THREE INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE BY SUNDAY EVENING ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND EAST TENNESSEE...MAINLY ABOVE 2500 FEET.

A WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE MOUNTAINS TODAY AND TONIGHT... AND MAY NEED TO BE EXPANDED INTO THE VALLEYS FOR LATER TONIGHT AND SUNDAY. IN ADDITION...A SNOW ADVISORY MAY ALSO BE NEEDED FOR THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND NORTHEAST TENNESSEE ON SUNDAY.

Who here lives above 2500 feet in Northeast Tennessee?

The highest elevation in TN at 6,643 ft. is Clingman's Dome. The counties with the highest elevations are the eastern sides of Unicoi, Sevier, Blount, and Monroe.

They will probably see a lot more of the fluffy white snowflakes than anyone else in TN. Would love to see some!

Speaking only for North East TN: Roan Mountain, which is in Carter Co., Johnson County, no Johnson City is not in Johnson County, the main town is Mountain City, and sometimes Bays Mountain In Kingsport are usually the first to get snow and will have snow when the rest of us in the foot hills will not get any.

Yes, I knew that one.

I peed off of it when I was three or four.

Thumbs up Snow for the Plateau

Nowcast as of 6:05 PM CST on December 15, 2007

Snow Advisory in effect from 3 am to 12 PM CST Sunday... a strong low pressure center is moving northeastward through western Tennessee bringing significant rainfall to much of the midstate. As this low moves northeastward through the Ohio Valley tonight a cold front will swing through the midstate...turning the rain to light snow over much of the area. Much of the Cumberland Plateau will receive between one and two inches of snowfall by midday Sunday.

They are calling for just rain here in the mts. of N. GA, but I can hear either sleet or freezing rain hitting the windows. Drive carefully, all in TN.

Maybe, just maybe, I'll get to play in the snow with my 4 x 4 tomorrow......
