I am looking to relocate to your State. My wife and I are in our mid- late 50's. This will most likely be the last move we make. Although we are currently from New Jersey, we are of a very conservative mindset. Hence, the primary reason we want to escape New Jersey! WE have two children ages 20 and 13. I have a strict budget of $350,000. Here are some of my needs/wants:
1. EDUCATION: A Very Good High School for my 13 year old. 2. HEALTH: Good air quality. 3. Good Medical facility nearby. 4.SAFETY: Low Crime 5. WORK: Need to be within 45 minutes of a Federal Courthouse. 6. HOME: Nice 3-4 Bedroom with a front porch, full basement, 2.5-3baths, on at least 2 or more acres. Geo Thermal heating and cooling preferred.* NO FORCED HOT AIR HEAT! Would like the larger property for ATV riding and being able to target shoot firearms on my property

I was sorry to see that you've had no replies to your questions from any Tennesseans so thought I might throw a few things out here as to what hubby and I from IL are doing to also relocate out there. We vacation the last 4 yrs and love the Gatlinburg/ Sevierville area. While our budget is much lower than yours, we have found some great properties via Zillow.com. I guess all I can suggest is that you could find where the fed courthouses are, then look for a home in that area. Realtors are easy to come by. Another website is Realtor.com. Actually this all started when I googled homes for sale near Gatlinburg TN. I also was able to see reviews and comments about individual realtors and it looks like they will be of great value to help us find exactly what we're looking for when the time comes. Hope this little bit of advice helps. Good luck and God bless.

The "no forced air" heat requirement will be very difficult to find. You may have to custom build.

I got curious. Thought there would 4 Federal Courthouses in the state, seems to be several more than that. Don't know how the geo-thermal would be to find, like was mentioned, probably easier to build to your specs. Southern Middle Tennessee might be better suited for that. No idea about the schools or medical in that area.

My thoughts exactly. Up until that I was thinking it would be a breeze for them to find what they wanted.

You could build a nice custom home in the area of your choice for $350,000. Cities in Tennessee where federal courthouses are located can be found at the link below.

Keep in mind that generally discharging firearms within city limits is a no-no. You will need to be out side of city limits to shoot and most likely ride ATVs. I am on 40 acres and it is barely enough for target practice and riding without upsetting a couple neighbors. Then again these are neighbors that are recent transplants from CA.

Interestingly enough we are also from Jersey, looking at TN for many of the same reasons with similar interests. My budget isn't quite as high and I"d like to be in a mountain area. Hopefully somewhere that has weekend farmers markets or locally sourced grass fed beef. I was originally looking outside of Asheville but TN seems to be a much better value. I'd welcome any suggestions on areas?
