Hello everyone. I was wondering how hard is it to find an
all electric house in the Cookeville area.

I don't like gas. Scares me.

I dont like gas either.

Oh, you mean for heat/appliances.

I would say gas and electric heat pumps are about equal.

While I personally prefer heating my house with gas, there are still a lot of people who prefer electric heat and electric stoves. I don't think you'll have any problems finding an all-electric house in the Cookeville area.

Good luck!

One thing to keep in mind, if you weren't already aware of it, is that there's two types of gas heat: natural gas and propane. Natural gas is safer than propane and doesn't have the same smell. I don't like propane myself, but I've used natural gas before and had no problem with it. I live in an all-electric house now.

In TN wouldn't gas be more expensive than electric?

I think gas has become more expensive than electric. At one time gas was considered they way to go.

Many people in rural area have to go with propane as opposed to natural gas due to the lack of availability.

It is now. Our last home was larger and had a 20 foot ceilings in the great room and master bedroom and was heated with electricity. The highest bill we received was around $300 for one month's usuage. I think our electric bill averaged $175 - $200 for the year.

Our current home has propane furnace/water tank and even though the house is smaller, we use around 1000 gallons per year. We normally pre-buy at summer rates and I'm dreading the bill that's due any day now. I like how warm the air is coming out of the registers, but as soon as we can afford it, we're converting to a heat pump with propane backup. These gas prices stink!

That's what I was thinking.

We have electric and our rates vary between low $80's and low $100's for ~1,050 sq. ft.

My folks have some type of gas (natural?) and there bills are usually 25%+ more expensive than ours and they only have about 550 sq. ft.

I'm sure there are other factors, primarily usage, as well.

Well, our prepay bill for propane came today. $2800 is what 800 gallons of propane will cost if we pre-buy now to lock-in summer prices. We've already shaved what we can off our usage and turn the heat down to 58 degrees at night so I guess we're stuck. We only use propane for our water heater and furnace.

Anyone convert from propane furnace to electric heat pump recently? I love how warm the air is coming out of the vents, but I can't afford these prices that are bound to creep up year after year.
