Just curious what's to see & do.

It's a kind of sad trip for me. I had an internet friend, that became like a grandfather to me. He passed away, and wished his ashes spread in the garden his wife tendered. I just want to pay my respects.

His home is on Horseshoe Bend Rd. Is that far from downtown Lawrenceburg?

I was thinking of staying at the Davy Crockett Motel, and maybe exploring the state park of the same name.

As for eating, I like country cookin' (fresh veggies), or BBQ. I have been told, that the state park has a very good restaurant, but I am open to other suggestions.

I was told that there is an interesting Amish community close-by, as well. I highly respect them.

Although I am in Atlanta, I would likely be leaving from Birmingham. Nice drive?

Thanks for any and all thoughts...

I'm late to the game, but...

Horseshoe Bend Road is a couple miles south of the square. It is right off
HWY 43.

We have a few things here--David Crockett Park, a bowling alley,
a skating rink (on 43 S in Leoma), a cinema, you can hear live music at the
radio station beside McDonald's on Saturday nights, and at the city administration
building (called the Tennessee Valley Jamboree, it is twice a month). We have
2 car race tracks, a few public golf courses, Amish village activities like buggy ride
tours, and shopping. I like Big John's BBQ on North Military, and Hardees on
N Locust (43N), and Arby's, but there are meat & 3s (like the park rest.), steak houses,
and ethnic food to be had. Almost every store-type business is on N Locust and E & W Gaines,
but a few things are on the square, and on N Military. DC motel isn't too bad, it isn't
the best, but it isn't the worst. The DC Park has cabins to rent, they overlook the
lake. Wherever you decide to stay, I'd make reservations because there aren't very
many motels & they can be filled pretty fast. There are a few museums on the square,
all with free admission.

The drive through Chattanooga is beautiful, we have a new bypass that opened
up the eastern part of the county & has exposed some beautiful hills/views.

Hope this helps--and sorry for your loss.
