I saw a post in the Nashville forum the other day where the poster stated the "healthcare sucked" in Nashville. If they're talking about the hospitals and availability of medical care in Nashville, they're just plain wrong. I assume instead they're talking about state assistance to pay for healthcare.

There was a program in place for several years called TennCare. It was a very nice program, but incredibly expensive, hard to manage correctly, and easy abused. Because of that, the program had to be changed and scaled back. Still, they are several programs available to cover low income and uninsured people, especially kids, in the state. The new program is called Cover Tennessee.

If this is an interest to you, you might want to spend some time looking at the state website: http://www.covertn.gov/

Don't come to Tennessee just for state assistance for your healthcare (people were actually doing that under TennCare); but this could be a factor if you coming anyway and are on the lower end of the income ladder.

Wink coverkids tn

My son is about to get a heart test he needs, thanks to CoverKids. We are not on welfare, my husband works. This is a very helpful program that will pay off in the long run with healthier kids.

There's also coverage for pregnant women.
