I'm a Missourian married to a strong Texas woman. We live in the Missouri Ozarks and listen to Fort Worth's KFWR via streaming audio. KFWR played these songs today. I wish Missourians had this attitude of state pride.

Welcome to Texas

Here's another good'n:

*********, We're From Texas

I admire the attitude of true Texans, who diminish in number each year. I fret about the future of your state, given the demographic changes.

The Texans I know would be embarrassed about these songs and the lovely "*********" attitude. Ugh! Terrible!!

As a native Texan, I enjoyed the first, and can do without the second.

IMHO, the second one is a piece of trash that does not reflect what most true native Texans are, so if you consider that one to be typical of the general attitudes...um....well, I don't have anything else to say.

I wanted to say that, but I refrained from doing so. Pride is one of the seven deadly sins. It's in Proverbs ... 16:18.

^^^I think there's a difference between being proud of where you come from and thinking you're superior because of it, the latter of which is what the Bible warns against.

There is definitely a contingent on the Houston forum from a certain unnamed Western state that think they are superior because of where they are from.

Yes, and in the Austin forums as well. I would add in yet another unnamed Western state that has the same attitude as well ... seems to be a hazard of living in certain unnamed West Coast states.

I don't know. You might want to look up the word in the dictionary. That pretty well sums it up with or without Proverbs. Check out the synonyms, idioms, and antonym. I used the word once to a dear and terribly intelligent Texan regarding the pride he must feel for his children. He taught me the correct meaning of pride and changed that word to admire. I liked it!!

Being proud is one thing, but being downright arrogant is another. That second song, along with it's imagery, is arrogant as hell.
