Anyone from Bandera?? (San Antonio, Boerne, Sonora: camping, place to live, prices)

I am looking for someone who is willing to communicate with me about Bandera. I have been watching this site but so much of it is about San Antonio -- yes I know that is what the site is. I'm hoping someone lives outside of the city and can answer questions. Thanks

I have been through Bandera many times. These two sites might answer some of your questions, and maybe prompt some more. I suggest that you come out and ask what questions you have about Bandera so that you have a better chance of getting some responses.

Bandera is on the edge of the best part of the Hill Country. I'm not wild about the town itself but the country west of there is absolutely gorgeous! If you've ever seen the movie "All The Pretty Horses", you'll see how pretty it is during the second part of the movie where they're supposedly in Mexico. Uhh, no, they're actually in Texas. The first part where it's really ugly, they call it Texas because that's how Hollywood likes to portray the state. And a lot of it is VERY UGLY, admittedly. But all that beautiful water and greenery and hills, that's all in the hill country west/northwest of San Antonio.

My main experience with the region is that it's my favorite part of the state for camping. Unfortunately it's being "discovered" by people rapidly and prices are going way up, as is the influx of people. It's nowhere near as peaceful and remote today as it was 15 years ago. But the farther you get from San Antonio, the more tranquility you can find.

I think the little town of Sonora on Interstate 10 is a sleeper that is going to be a hit someday and I wish I could afford to invest in property there. It's incredibly cheap because nothing is going on there and it's remote, but that won't last. It will be discovered and developed just like all the other pretty parts of Texas that have been a well-kept secret until recently.

What about Boerne - would there be jobs there and/or is it a nice place to live near Bandera?

I've never driven from Boerne to Bandera, but I'd say it would be at least a 30min drive.
