I've been thinking about moving to Sanderson, Tx. I found some cheep land on the San Fransico Creek. I would love any infomation about this area anyone could give me. I know I would have to live "off the grid", which kinda scares me (a little). I have always wanted to live in the middle of no where. But I am a city gal... Plus all the all the crap I would need to make it out there (generator, solar power, etc.) is so expencive. Anyways.... if any one knows the area around Five Mile Rd. / Rock Ravine Rd. / Casa Rd. please let me know any info you can give me.

Make sure you have a shotgun and rifles loaded at the ready if you're going to live out there alone. A varmint gun would be a good idea, too for the snakes.

There's a reason the land is so cheap out there. Oh yeah, and be prepared for scorching hot and shadeless summers.

You'll also need to have a well drilled and a septic system put in. That's going to cost a little bit. That's pretty decent hunting out there, that's about all.

Rock Ravine road, Sanderson, Tx - Google Maps

I don't know the area but I wouldn't want to live in an isolated cabin near the Mexican border.

Sanderson is the location of the trailer park where Llewellyn Moss lives in the film No Country for Old Men.

My father-in-law had a house in Sanderson while he worked for Southern Pacific Railroad. When SP was bought by Union Pacific in the late 1990s, UP closed the Sanderson depot and he sold the house. Now, the trains don't even stop in Sanderson anymore; they go straight from Del Rio to Alpine.

Short explanation: Sanderson is a dying town...and this cabin is a 45 minute drive away...

Sanderson, TX is almost five hours away from San Antonio, and a little over five hours from El Paso. It's basically almost halfway between the two locations, and hour and a half south of Fort Stockton.

So, pretty much in the middle of nowhere; but a great place if you're "looking to get away from it all!"

Cheers! M2

I played a couple of HS football games in Sanderson back in 2006-2007. If you want off the grid, Sanderson is probably the place to be. It's a predominantly white town despite being close to the border and about an hour away from Ft. Stockton. It's an okay town alot of friendly people

I know someone who inherited land in Sanderson. They have visited it a couple of times, but have no interest in living there.

I used to live in that area and worked in law enforcement. I'm not familiar with that specific location but Sanderson is a nice quiet safe place to live. It's 65 miles to the nearest stop light or Wal-Mart. If you move to a place "off the grid" check out the availability of water. You'll probably need to drill a well which can be quite expensive in that area.
Another poster said the weather is "scorching hot" but that's isn't really true. Sanderson is in the high desert and summers are hot but nothing like places such as Del Rio etc. Nights are generally cool. Winters are pleasant. Sanderson is a very nice place but it is in the "middle of nowhere" even though it is the county seat.
