LOl.................. no joke, though. Although I admitedly laugh at the name, it's a proposed highway along East Texas.

Interstate 69 Texas

Basically, it's US-59, 77, 287, on steroids.

This has been planned since Bill Clinton was in his first year or two in office(1993-1994). It should have already been built. There is nothing funny about the name. It is part of the NAFTA Highway project that goes from Canada to Mexico. JJG, you are probably to young to remember, but NAFTA was Al "I invented the internet" Gore and Bill "I didn't inhale or sleep with her" Clinton's baby. If you research Interstate 69, you will see that there is a portion in Indiana that has been in existence for about 50 years or so now. I do not think that this Interstate will ever come in to fruition during my lifetime and I am only 37. We do need it though and hopefully it will get built soon.

It was an offset and/or an alternate route of the Trans-Texas Corridor (Google it).

Not too many years ago US-666 in the Four Corners area was re-numbered, with all the attendant hoopla. For those not aware, the no. 666 is a biblical reference to "the beast" (variously known as Lucifer, Satan or the Devil).

It was an offset
...and a very appropriate route for no. 69!

Yeah, I've been searching this all night. And I know several people were opposed to this.... didn't find any supporters.

Yeah it does, doesn't it?

Actually, I started searching for this when I saw the I-27 post here. Just stumbled on it.

Personally, I don't have a big opinon for or against it. Other than the fact that it's named after something out of the Kama Sutra, I just don't want to see more tollways. And adding more highways just adds more cars, which adds more pollution.

However, it would be a faster, easier access from Texarkana to Houston.... I don't know.

There's a pretty good news blog here focused on the controversies around the country related to construction of this interstate. Skimming it made me wonder how any interstates were ever built in this country.
