You should see whats going on between Bullard & Jacksonville. US 69 is being transformed from a 4 lane country highway into a small section of freeway with elevated overpasses & feeder roads. US 69 between Jacksonville & Rusk is a 4 lane winding concrete median divided freeway taking you on a little woodsy adventure. Driving it on a nice sunny day with the top open is a treat I always enjoy. The fresh open piney air is wonderful.

US 59 through Lufkin recently got constructed into a freeway too complete with elevated over passes.

Its happening, albeit at a slower pace than I'd like to see.
From what I'm reading, I-69 is not going in that direction. Once it hits Lufkin, it's going Northeast to Nacogdoches and then continuing northeast from there.

Do you know if they're going to widen to 3 lanes on U.S. 59 near Cleveland? They're doing construction out in Shepherd and was wondering if they're widening it?

This road is becoming heavily traffic.

All that map is telling me is they are changing the name of US 59 to 69.

*scratches head*

Its a wide freeway already from just north of Humble all the way down past Sugar Land.

Well... yeah. But it's only because 59 from Humble to Sugar Land are wide enough to be an interstate. The rest of the way is gonna need some work.

As for the rest of it, I'm sure they will be widening it all out. They've already started in South Texas from Brownsville to Corpus.

So yeah, even though the TTC is dead, THIS is still happening....

This will hugely benefit my native city of Houston. The new interstate will be a direct shot to Brownsville and Laredo increasing international commerce even more so than now by travelers diverting IH-35 and IH-10 and will make traveling to the border from Houston much faster. I know it's 360 miles from Houston to Laredo on US59. Does anyone know how many miles is from Houston to Brownsville or McAllen?

Its already wide enough to be an interstate from Tyler to Lufkin too except in the smaller towns in between them.

In fact, feeder roads & overpasses were just completed not long ago down near Bullard, just south of Tyler. Between Jacksonville & Rusk there is a concrete median with light polls on both sides. Combine that with the new outter loop tollway being built around Tyler growth is bound to follow.
