Yeah, I've been waiting for this interstate for about a decade now. It's supposed to pass within a few miles of my hometown and I thought it would be cool to be able to take the interstate to Houston. I'm not counting on it ever happening now, as much good as it would do.

Wow, I just had a small talk with my upper Geography professor today about this. He was saying that there is a possibility that I-59 will merge with I-69 in Lufkin and go up north. I need to go back tomorrow because I might have misunderstood him. However, I've looked on the internet at this one particular website and I totally do not get it. Here it is: Interstate 69 Texas

Do they mean 59 into I-69? from Victoria to Texarkana or just plain 69 () from Port Arthur to through Tyler?

I do really hope I-69 gets built. I'm sick of stop lights and also going through small towns with speed traps.

Parts of I-69 already exist in the Midwest.

Yeah, but it'll be brand new (sort of) here.

The plan is for Interstate 69 to supercede(take over, overlay) the route of U.S. 59 from Texarkana to Laredo with two spur Interstate routes(like IH-369 and IH-569) along the current alignments of U.S. 77 from Victoria to Brownsville and U.S. 281 from around George West to Mcallen and Hidalgo. Those routes would discontinue there present designation of U.S.Highways and be rebranded the Interstate Highway with new shields/signage. As for the Business Loops,The former routes ofthe U.S. Highways through the small towns, I am not sure if they are going to maintain the U.S. Highway designation or be given to the state of Texas and receive a State Loop or State Spur classification. This interstate is greatly needed. Hopefully it will be toll free and completed during my lifetime. It has been planned for about 17-18 years now. It should have already been completed.

I know the Trans-Texas Corridor is dead, but is Interstate 69 still chugging along?

Interstate 69 Texas

Basically, it's US-59, 77, 287, on steroids.
I think that's a wonderful name for the interstate.

Sounds like a reality to me.

You should see whats going on between Bullard & Jacksonville. US 69 is being transformed from a 4 lane country highway into a small section of freeway with elevated overpasses & feeder roads. US 69 between Jacksonville & Rusk is a 4 lane winding concrete median divided freeway taking you on a little woodsy adventure. Driving it on a nice sunny day with the top open is a treat I always enjoy. The fresh open piney air is wonderful.

US 59 through Lufkin recently got constructed into a freeway too complete with elevated over passes.

Its happening, albeit at a slower pace than I'd like to see.
