Bypassing the Legislature altogether, Republican Gov. Rick Perry issued an order Friday making Texas the first state to require that schoolgirls get vaccinated against the sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer.

Lobbyists money talks and parents walk. Nice.

This story is over FOUR YEARS old. It didn't happen. Not defending him, I didn't like this notion either, but this is not a valid discussion.

Yep, you're correct. What the hell was it doing on the front page of MSNBC?

Probably because there's talk of him running for President (as if we all didn't already know that was in the long-term plan no matter what he said).

Yes, he did it, even though he had no legal authority to do so. And then the legislature came back into town and explained that basic fact of life to him. No, no one elected you Emperor, Rick, and we even made you be Governor so you wouldn't have much power.

Sort of like Mom and Dad coming back from a trip and catching the kid having thrown a big party while they were gone.

Uh, seriously?? I guess that's why I ignore as much media as possible. I prefer to browse headlines and am amused by the different slant even headlines reveal.

I'm guessing MSNBC would like to nip a potential candidacy in the bud. How democratic of them!

For the record, I have no candidate.

Im okay with this.
Its very obvious some people are too stupid to take care of themselves. The ones most likely to get the STD are the ones that require being taken care of.

moving on to the next crisis

It's absolutely valid because it's part of a pattern of influence peddling and corruption that's always been at the periphery of the Perry administration. Perry enacted that executive order as a favor to a Merck lobbyist who just happened to be his former chief of staff.

Remember his kid "coincidentally" getting a job with UBS at the same time Perry & Phil Gramm recommended selling the Texas Lottery to them?

Perry's a smarmy, egotistical scumbag and the faster his potential candidacy is derailed, the better.
