Dr Pepper Sues Itself, Sort Of - Houston Restaurants and Dining - Eating Our Words

Good grief Dr. Pepper! How tacky!

Competition is one of the basic cores of our society. I understand the distribution issue, but I also see how the Dublin plant simply cannot control that. To punish one plant for exceeding so as to be fair to others, well, what can be said here EXCEPT ....... BAD BUSINESS.

Some people actually like the high high fructose corn syrup, so they are free to buy it at their local retailers. Some people like the Dr. Peppers made with Imperial sugar and more power to them in their efforts to obtain it. If the other bottling plants are having a problem there, they need to run a line of the Imperial sugar product along with the fructose corn syrup.

But no, Dr. Pepper seems intent on forcing everyone to drink the high fructose corn syrup regardless of personal preference. I said tacky earlier, but it's actually more arrogant. I don't know about anyone else, but I hate this type of 'we'll show you who's boss' attitude.

I'll drink the high fructose corn syrup DP's when I'm unable to get the Dublin ones, but if this lawsuit succeeds, bye, bye DP for me! I already drink the Pepsi throwbacks and the HEB coke, so no big deal. Damn, there's too many other choices out there for this BS!

Apparently. It's been one of the top selling sodas for years.

I've been buying Dr. Pepper in the small 8 oz. bottles sweetened with Imperial Pure Cane sugar for a while now, at Costco. Doesn't say Dublin on the bottle anywhere.

We do not tend to drink the crap , but the cans are good for discount admission to the State Fair.

So it has s o m e use.

So just how high will the price of Corn have to go before the straight up sugar is cheaper?

HEB now has five lines of store-brand cane-sugar-only beverages, including Dr. B, their Dr Pepper knockoff. (also Cola, Root Beer, Orange and Red). They cost $3 a dozen, while their HFCS versions are $2.50. Good stuff.

My son drinks Dr. Pepper but I can only stand to have about one a year. I don't see how people can stand it personally but to each their own.

the issue is contract violation--
the Dublin plant and the family that own it have persistantly gone outside the contract it has with the parent company to make MORE bottles (not in Dublin either) and sell in wider area than the contract allows

they are not the OWNER of the Dr. Pepper they bottle--they are a franchise in a limited location which has experienced a big surge of marketing/sales and started making a lot of money--
money they likely are not reporting as sales to the parent company since they gain a lot of it outside the contract provisions
so basically the Dublin plant/family owners are violating a contract--plain and simple

in order to get the contract/license they had to agree to terms with the parent company--
I am sure they knew if they did not they would lose the contract and would have to stop bottling the product and lose their business
tough luck--
the Dublin company is the one violating the law--
even big companies have rights

I'm sorry, but isn't the Dublin Dr Pepper plant the oldest in the country, starting bottling the very same year (1885) in Dublin that Dr Pepper started bottling in Waco, and far predating Snapple?

In any case, this is a PR disaster.
