Hendrick Medical Center here in Abilene is currently undergoing the largest expansion in it's history. Even before the current expansion started, Hendrick is already the largest hospital in this region. Two large new towers are being added (one of the towers will be expandable to more floors later if needed). A new parking structure is also being constructed as well as many other improvements:

Here's the link for that (includes info and renderings):

Apparently Texas Tech is also planning on constructing a new Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing building which will be attached to the current Texas Tech School of Pharmacy here in Abilene. That new facility is planned to be open by Fall of 2012. Here's a link for info on that:

Abilene Industrial Foundation

That's all of the major projects that I'm aware of here in Abilene at this time.

Lubbock is the largest medical center in the western half of the state (between Fort Worth and El Paso). I was referring to the Abilene area, or 'region'. Lubbock is 150 miles away. There are two major medical centers here in Abilene. Hendrick Medical Center as I already mentioned above and Abilene Regional Medical Center. Hendrick is the largest and busiest hospital in the Abilene area. There are certainly larger medical centers in Lubbock than what we have here in Abilene, however, people from this area usually only go to Lubbock or DFW if it's something that one of the hospitals here in Abilene can't handle.
