Please pray about all the wildfires going on in Texas and with this wind, there's a strong possibility more will occur. The firefighters are in harms way as are many residents of the burning areas. We need rain so desperately. I just found out one of my friend's mom was stuck in her home in Bastrop and only by the grace of God was she rescued.

Here is a link to the areas in the state that are burning and burning acre after acre. This map was from only three days ago and during this summer, we've had many, many more. It's extremely sad and scary. If the area were forested, I believe Texas would be in much more danger of fires spreading even more. I feel so sad for the people of Possum Kingdom. Two outbreaks within a short period is hard to take.

Since last November 3.5 million acres have burned. That's beyond belief, but it's happening. Never in California's history (a state apparently known for wildfires) has her land ever been known to burn that many acres. I think the worst year was 2007 when 500,000 acres were burned.

That Bastrop fire is still not contained. Even parts of Pflugerville (our backyard pretty much) have been evacuated.

I know, and they're saying it could get much worse. Keep safe, love roses!!

Since November, 20,631 fires have been reported in the state and have consumed 5,400 square miles.

Very sad. My partners 80 year old father was evacuated last night and the fire is on his property now! He went to his brothers house about 15 miles away and they are currently being evacuated! I feel so badly for everyone in the path of these fires. I hope and pray the fires are contained quickly!

I have a good friend who lives in Bastrop proper. Does anyone know whether the city itself is burning?

From the description below it appears that most of the fire is South east of downtown Bastrop. The information appears to conflict itself, first it says the fire moved unchecked for 16 miles south of Lost Pines, then it says they are trying to hold the fireline at FM 2571, which is only about 5-6 miles South of Lost Pines.

Wildfires Burning Across the Region Bastrop Monday Afternoon Update
The largest fire by far is the Bastrop fire. It began Sunday afternoon continues to spread. At this point there is still no containment and at least 25,000 acres have burned. Satellite images indicate that the fire has jumped Highway 95. The fire started in the Lost Pines area just northeast of Bastrop and has moved unchecked for at least 16 miles to the South and has jumped the Colorado River twice. Heavy airtankers and single-engine airtankers have been brought in to assist. Crews are fighting this fire from the air because it is currently too dangerous to battle on the ground.

The Circle D, K.C. Estates, Pine Forest, Colovista and Tahitian Village subdivision have been evacuated. Firefighters are trying to hold the fire at FM 2571. Reports indicate possibly 400 homes have been destroyed. So far 5,000 people have been evacuated. If you are traveling back home after the holiday weekend, keep in mind that Highway 21 has been shut down near Highway 71.
Circle D & K.C. Estates are NE of Bastrop, the rest appear to be South of Hwy 71.

Nearly half of Bastrop State Park, a 6,000-acre preserve east of Bastrop, was gone, KVUE-TV in Austin reported.
That is such a shame, it was such a beautiful park. See this video of the park. http://www.youtube.com/user/TexasPar.../4/W8MdNlyPjvw
