Planning a trip from Kansas City to Hunstville Texas. I haven't driven on Texas freeways for a number of years but I'm told the traffic is worse than ever. Considering flying in and renting a car. Choices: (A) Love Field, (B)DFW (c) Bush Interntional or (D) Austin. Any recommendations on airports and highways are welcome.

Bush to Huntsville, about 50 miles all interstate. Google it. Could be heavy traffic, depending on when and what hours your are leaving and returning to Bush. But, partly 8-10 lane freeway, then closer to Huntsville, four lane divided freeway. Grass between the inbound outbound lanes. Not just concrete wall separating the North/South lanes.

Curious, why Huntsville, University, or work or? Good luck.

Bush will be easiest. Driving from Dallas will be long and boring. Emphasis on boring. Traffic isn't bad if you don't go during non-peak hours. Like Mark says, check google for a few days and you can get a trend for when traffic is heaviest. I45 gets gnarly at the wrong time of day. I like Huntsville, but then again I was raised in a small town.

Bush to Hunstville is I-45 the whole way, your best option is to take the Hardy toll-road connector to the Hardy then shoot up to I-45 and roll North.

IAH, I-45, take it through Conroe, then Huntsville.

The Woodlands tend to be heavy traffic, then Conroe. After Conroe, it should be smooth traffic. It reduces to two lanes around Willis (one lane for passing).

Enjoy the trees and keep an eye out for the Sam Houston Statue.

If he misses the Sam Houston statue, it would be like driving down the PCH.....& missing the Pacific.

I'd want to try some of what he is smoking.

Gee, now really, once I was looking, left, west, as I passed the statue on the east side of 45 as I was headed north to Tyler and didn't SEE the statue, and honestly I was not SMOKING, anything, lol, maybe looking at the trees on the west side. But seriously, you can miss it. But that response was a bit humorous, hound 109.

I completely missed this part...

Have you considered flying into Miami and driving in from there instead?

Anyone capable of missing that beast of a statue........, probably isn't capable of making it out of their driveway.
Nor should they. (knowing that statue all too well)
