No, Rick Perry takes a lot of credit for what the State of Texas has always done and what other Texans have done. It's our culture - the one that you probably, based on what you've said, look down upon - that generates all that activity.

And what would the magic trick be to creating all those jobs? I'm seeing a LOT of private sector jobs in my field. But I heard that almost all of the jobs that Perry created were government jobs. Not that those aren't needed, but it's easier to take credit for.

The funniest thing about all this is the fact that nep doesn't seem to have considered the fact that some people not from the northeast find northeastern accents to be like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Well, I don't have a New York or Boston accent. I don't drop my r's or anything like that. But I love to use the word "wicked" as in "it's wicked hot outside." And "you guys" and "grinder." A grinder, by the way, is a subway style sandwich lol. And I pronounce the word "aunt" as "ont," not "ant." And I'm going to go fishing in the "brook." I hope Texas people won't be bothered by this kind of language. But who knows...the longer I live there, the more I may adopt the use of real Texas words and phrases. And I'm sure the more Northeast transplants that move down there, the more the Texas people might pick up on our words, too. Kinda like a melting pot of language.

Well, if you go fishing, there are no "brooks" here. Nope, not any that I know of. Lots of creeks though.

Texas is already a melting pot of all sorts.

Come summer, Houston will be hot and humid, Austin hot and dryer.

Hurricanes are more of a problem in Houston than Austin. Hope that you like bats if you pick Austin.

The downtown bridge on Congress Ave. has a huge nest of bats. They build little crevices into the concrete so the bats can live there. People go there to watch the bats take off every night. When we went, it was so dark when they came out that we could hardly see them.

As for Texas's job creation, we have plenty of oil and dry land to build cities on. Louisiana next door has oil too but the state is all swamp. North Dakota is also undergoing supercharged growth for the same reason. But Texans like to credit their own supposedly pro-business culture. (In fact, the overall tax burden is above average here.) On the flip side, the standards of business ethics can be low due to lack of regulation. Enron came from here, and was treated as the big hero of the state until California prosecutors brought charges.
