Safe from crime, or safe from hurricanes? .

I can't answer for you, but the island is (iirc) quite 'jumbled' when it comes to nice area and seedier areas. A condo/house on the West End will be 'quieter' (and I assume safer), but not behind the seawall...

That link from djboutit sums it up well.

I lived in Galveston for three years. Would I do it again? No, not after experiencing the hurricanes coming in (Rita 2005, Ike 2008).

If you don't mind the thought of your house getting blown down or flooded, and like coastal culture, it might be ok.

Sea rook, etc is better unless you want to live in a condo on the sea wall.

This is the perfect example of a person who lives life cup half empty. .

Galveston is a good place to live. . You got the beach life and 30 min from the city life
