After quite a few months of nothing happening, my husband has an official interview with the CEO of Tenaris on the 17th of this month, which is promising. I am back to review the cities that were mentioned in the previous posts. We don't have any children so schools are not a factor; however, in my mind it plays into the type of area that we would consider. Commuting is a factor which makes it near the top of our wish list. I prefer to live closer to a decent sized city; however my husband would like to have some land. I don't want to drive 12 miles for groceries but my husband doesn't care about that. Our thoughts are towards home purchase but I am willing to rent for a short amount of time, if needed.

Has Bay City grown at all since April 2014 per my original post? Is there new information that would be beneficial for us to know about communities/cities in the surrounding area? We currently have a friend that lives outside Sugarland but I don't know exactly where. While he will certainly be a reference for us if the position is offered, I most likely will not get a look-see if the numbers, etc are right. He will likely move before I'll be able to get to Texas but it won't be too long after he moves. As such it is always nice to have outside opinions because information listed by city is based on 2012 census data therefore you can see that others opinions are going to important for us (me, lol).

Thanks all for your input and assistance.

Teresa

Census Estimates have been updated, reflecting July 1, 2013 data. City pop. estimates were up in April 2014. Not much change for Bay City. I decided to look it up, Bay City, down 100 since census of 2010. Lake Jackson up 500 since census. I don't know anything about the area, maybe it's growing in areas nearby?

I've been looking in cities Southwest-ish of Bay City as well, such as El Campo, Palacios. It's daunting to say the least. I want to be closer to Sugarland, Lake Jackson and surrounding areas but my husband really wants "Newberry" and homes with character.

If there is any input on areas closer to the Gulf but opposite direction of Houston, that would be fantastic.

There are some lovely, historic homes in Bay City and Tenaris employees will likely be welcomed with open arms. I believe most residents there have been counting down the days till the first wave of Tenaris people move there -- hoping that they will support the nicer establishments that struggle to remain open since Wal-Mart and other chains started popping up. They have a new high school and hospital and it's only a 30 minute drive to Matagorda (one of Texas' most beautiful and relatively undiscovered beaches.)

Yes, I noticed on Realtor.com that there are many older homes in the surrounding areas as well. I know that several people we know are choosing to live around Sugar Land. The last time I lived in a small town, I didn't have a very good experience because it was so difficult meeting people and there was nothing to do. I do want to give the area around Bay City a chance and not go into it with my negative history leading my choices.

Since my husband would be all set as far as the job, naturally then, I will look to my own career. I am a Nail Specialist (Nail Tech, Manicurist). I had plans of opening my own shop here where I live; however, if we move, that will have to take a back seat. I am very good at what I do and I specialize in quality over quantity. Can anyone speak about the salon experience in the area? It doesn't just have to be in Bay City. My experience is primarily in high end spas but this past two years I worked in a culturally diverse multi-chair nails only salon. I was fortunate to work within a very nice community and our clientele was very loyal as well. But, my current salon is VERY different because it is strictly English only, extremely clean (we always score 100's on state board inspections) and this is one reason why we have such a great clientele. And to add to this list, this area is saturated with Asian Nail Salons. What is the Nail Salon community like in the Bay City and surrounding area?

Thanks again. My husband interviews on Friday and we are anticipating an offer of employment so as you can see, it's getting "real!"
