Pros: Jobs, low COL, cheap housing.
Cons: Traffic in all the major metros sucks. Summers are either brutally hot (DFW, Austin, San Antonio, Hellpaso) or unbearably humid (Houston). Outside of the Hill Country, the mountains of West Texas, and the Cross Timbers, the geography near the major cities is fairly non-descript and boring.

But you don't have to deal with big city traffic or "geography near major cities being boring" if you choose to settle in a smaller city or town, and there are plenty of beautiful places like that filled with friendly people all across this state.

The weather varies a lot but basically it's HOT in the summer anywhere in Texas. I live in northeast Texas and am from the deep south so the humidity doesn't bother me, but it does bother some people who come to this area. Personally I love northeast Texas because I think the rolling hills and trees and pastures are beautiful. We also have a lot of lakes. Water sports are really big throughout the state of Texas.

The housing is cheapER in Texas, but it is steadily climbing. Don't make a move without a job secured unless you have several thousands to live on. Tens of thousands if you drag a family with you.

90% of the state is completely flat
Not many trees, unless you go to East Texas
Traffic sucks in all the major cities, even more on I-35 (Laredo to Dallas)

Pros - great people, good business environment, mild winters (here in East Texas anyway), affordable housing, lots of sunshine, plenty of lakes and rivers and fun outdoor activities, fabulous food, unique culture, and many men are still gentlemen of the highest caliber.

Cons - I can't be in Virginia or New Orleans at the same time I'm in Texas. If I can figure out how to be in all three favorite places at the same time, I'll let y'all know.
