Houston needs to cancel those light rail projects and upgrade the downtown freeways.

Nah, what Houston needs to do is rip up those hov lanes and replace them with heavy rail. Then use the current park and rides as the stations. That way, you dont just have rush hour transit like it is now because we all know Houston traffic is crap outside of rush hour too.

Where are the people who used those hov lanes supposed to drive?

Just admit.. this

is unacceptable for a city like Houston

Who uses the HOV lanes anyway? It's mostly the Lexus Lane drivers nowadays who use them.

People are still stupid enough to pay for parking downtown instead of taking the commuter buses, judging from the game day rate hike a couple months ago.

I drive on the Pierce Elevated everyday and the 6 lane viaduct does a good job of moving traffic through Downtown. Are you expecting entrance and exit ramps to every set of one-way streets with your 8-10 lane expansion? What a good way to create gridlock!

But the current 1/2 city block wide viaduct should be shifted one block north to make the routing straighter and the road wider (8-10 lanes) as it will take an entire city block instead. Pierce and St. Joseph Pkwy can serve as frontage roads for the Gulf Freeway through downtown on the correct sides of the freeway. Hopefully there won't be ramps between the curve and the future I-69 interchange.

I agree wholeheartedly! Commuter Buses can only hold so much and the seat width is too narrow, making it uncomfortable unless you have the entire row to yourself during off-peak hours or lightly traveled routes. The thought of allowing people willing to stand in the aisle the whole route is appalling and unsafe.

Uh...they can ride the train and save miles on their vehicle or join the freeway traffic.
