My fellow Oklahomans are suffering through one of the worst ice storms in history and I hear that many Texas public utilities are heading up North at this very minute to help make things right.

I've lived in Texas for many years now, and this doesn't surprise me one single bit, as Texans are some of the most hospitable people I have ever met.

I just wanted to say "Thank you Texas." Your generosity is most assuredly welcomed, and the size of your hearts is as big as the great state of Texas.

Merry Christmas to you all and a very Happy New Year.

Aw, I know! They are having it rough! I know several Okies myself. Some refer to them as wannabe Texans but it's said in love! Glad we can be of help!

This is not based on goodwill alone. Back around 10-15 years ago the trade association of electric utilities realized that ALL of them had a larger amount of field workers on their payroll than was actually needed during "normal" times. Looking at their regular demand versus what they would need when these big snow/sleet/ice/wind or other kinds of storms occur they all decided to cut their payrolls.

I don't think a lot of it was done through big layoffs, although I'm sure a lot of baby boomer generation were offered early retirement. Then when something big happens they draw on each other's personnel. Of course TX being the biggest market the flow of workers is generally OUT of TX and into other areas. Within TX it's generally FROM Houston, Dallas and other big cities TO rural areas, smaller towns.

Not denigrating the efforts, but it's based on economics, it's not exactly a "barnraising".
