My husband is taking a job transfer that would move us from Northwestern Oklahoma to College Station or Bryan, TX. We have never been there and do not know anything about the area. I have looked up schools and thought it was crazy that in Bryan half of them were ranked very high and the other half ranked very low! I would hate to end up on the wrong side of town as we are most likely going to have to find and negotiate a rental house situation over the internet. I am leary of agents and landlords who might just tell us what we want to hear. If anyone cold give me a break down of where to look and which schools are the best (elementary) I would really really appreciate it.

College Station is nicer and has better schools than Bryan. Bryan has a charming historic downtown, but is more run-down. It's kind of the working class sister city to College Station's white collar / academic population.

I'd recommend living in College Station but a bit south of TAMU's campus so your neighbors aren't all students! Hopefully someone can chime in with some specific schools to recommend; my info is about a decad old College Station is a surprisingly good town to raise a family in - strong public schools, very safe, lots of family-oriented churches & other activities (country club, YMCA, all of the traveling musicals / lectures/ etc that come through A&M every year, etc).
