I don't how I missed this considering that I am a Hyperloop advocate. Anyway Elon Musk plans to build a hyperloop test track somewhere in Texas.

Forget about "high speed" rail, this is the future.

That is pretty cool. Thanks for the link.

I know that this is being discussed for longer trips (say Dallas to Houston). But what would prevent a shorter "commute" to replace commutes at rush hour?

For example: a Frisco to DT Dallas line; or a Woodlands to DT Houston; or a Lakeway (or Round Rock) to DT Austin ?

I don't know if Hyperloop would help on short commutes, but it could change what people consider a do-able commute. For example, a person could live in Midland and work Dallas or vice versa and still only have a 30 minute commute.

Cool Too Soon For This Now:

Is this privately funded? Because if it isn't, then they reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeallly need to be focusing on expanding bus routes and building more rail trains (a "B" train from down town Denton to down town Fort Worth, or at least to DFW Air Port to name one of many) first.

Yep. Hyperloop is, so far, completely privately funded.
