Hi, I think this is at the appropriate forum to put this post in.

How is it living in near Trinity Valley in Athens, TX? There is a CFO job there that I am interested in and if I get the job I will be relocating from NYC.

I am not a fan of NYC anymore and want to leave. It's been a while since I have driven a car and I am assuming that is the only way to get around? Is that right?

I grew up in a small town in the Northeast so I am not adverse to smaller places. On the map, it looks as if there is a country club there.

Any thoughts?

Athens, TX is a small town in rural east Texas. It's going to be a HUGE culture shock coming from New York City!

Yes, there is no public transportation at all in Athens, and a car is an absolute must.

IIRC, Athens does have a small country club with a golf course.

For anything beyond the basics you would have to drive to Tyler (45 minutes), Dallas (1 hr, more for anything worth going to) or maybe Jacksonville (45 minutes, not sure if there's much of anything there either). Athens is a college town (Trinity Valley CC) and a certified retirement community, so there's not a lot for young professionals. It's also a small town with not a whole lot going on in general, but it is the largest in the area save for the three cities mentioned above. Cedar Creek Lake is nearby though.
