We prefer warmer winters, hands down I know Lubbock beats Amarillo for that, but not by much. Cheaper rents and LOWER crime rates are a priority. I have been to both cities before and they both appeal to me. Gotta get out of Colorado ASAP!

I am very familiar with both cities, having lived in or near both for several decades.

IMO, The only real difference in weather is the winter time, and it seems that many years Lubbock gets less ice than Amarillo. Most years the wind blows in Amarillo more than it does in Lubbock, however there is much more dirt and sand in the wind in Lubbock. Both are fairly windy however.

Lubbock offers a larger population, but as important is the surrounding area's population which adds to the draw of more retail and restaurants, and Lubbock beats Amarillo for that.

Amarillo has some real cool vibe though, and has (again, my opinion) more outside activities than Lubbock, but there are still plenty of things to do in both cities.

Jobs, Lubbock is more white collar, Amarillo more blue collar. Both have medical infrastructure that provide many jobs, but Lubbock has Texas Tech which offers another field of work that Amarillo lacks.

Understand that getting to a major metro will entail much more travel than where you live now, but if major metro access is not that important to you, then either place will be nice places to live. There are dumpy parts of town in both cities, but nice parts too.

Obviously I am biased, but either would be good choices, although I lean a tiny bit more toward Lubbock.
