now, are these cities friendly just to their own "type"?

or are they also friendly to those that walk to the beat of a different drum?

People who grew up in Dallas are very friendly. But, alas we have many transplants.

Go to north Florida or the Florida panhandle and you will meet plenty of friendly people.
Just as friendly as Texas.

Our big cities here are not as friendly as the smaller towns. I think that is due to a large influx of out of state transplants.

I still consider the whole state of Texas as friendly, just like the Spanish name's definition suggests. Tejas means friendly.

Not quite. Tejas means "tiles" in Spanish.

But, the state's name apparently was derived from an Indian word meaning "friend":
Tejas is the Spanish spelling of a Caddo word taysha, which means "friend" or "ally". In the 17th century, the Spanish knew the westernmost Caddo peoples as "the great kingdom of Tejas", and the name lived on to become the name of the 28th state of the United States—Texas.

Default Lubbock area

If you want friendless in a desolate flat place that's windy without trees and very far from the coast. Maybe it's a good place for you. I want a friendly city with close proximity to fun places to drive, so Houston is my pick. It's the only place where you can wear jeans to any function and money is not something that you want to brag about in Houston, because you'll never know who has it unless you are driving to River Oaks. Everyone is down to earth whether transplanted or not. Everything is laid back and casual. It's close to the Riverwalk, Florida beaches, Galveston, Dallas, The hill country, New Orleans. What more could you want. The cost of living is also cheap compared to many large cities and even some smaller ones in closeby states.

I would say West Texas (not all of it I have found some of the rudest people around Sonora) the Hill country and of course, Happy and Friendswood!
