Huntsville is a city for employees of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (prison workers, correctional officers, etc.) and students/employees of Sam Houston State University. I am the SHSU student.

But I wonder about the inmates. There has to be quite a bit of population here who are families and friends of the inmates. What percentage do you think that is? And also, are there considerable sizes of former inmates who stay in Huntsville?

Generally Texas correctional facilities are located far far far from the communities where offenders originated. I'm not sure where you would find that data but I would be very surprised if there are many friends and families of inmates in Huntsville at all. And I bet you won't find any former inmates staying there.

There wouldn't be many families of inmates there, other than for local residents who ended up in prison.

Don't forget Sam Houston University. There's 598 of academic staff and their families.
