Plenty of areas outside of Beaumont to live that are uber safe. The culture of racism statement is way out of bounds but I'd say that is a matter of perspective. As far as I know there are no racist events recorded in the last 5 decades in Hardin County. Lumberton is a very nice and growing small city. Commuting to work in Beaumont or the refinery areas in Port Arthur should be no problem. I commute 50 miles into Beaumont from north of the city. I'm a trauma critical care RN there. I wouldn't live there (Beaumont).

BTW I work with several nurses from ND.

There is a demand for diesel mechanics offshore on the oil platforms.

There's tons of threads on Beaumont here on C-D with many recommendations on where to live. Search them and then if you have other questions about the area send me a DM. I've helped a half a dozen people that way since I've been on C-D. Helps one bypass the mud slinging.

Have you seen ALL of Beaumont or are you just going off of the clientele you deal with at the E.R? Everything nice is being built in the West End. Someone who settles there doesn't need to really leave that area for ANYTHING. When I was there, they were cutting down those woods along Major Dr and developing everything. My uncle stayed on Indian Blanket (and it was very, very quiet) All I was tryong to tell the OP is not to write off the whole city because the smaller towns may not have everything he needs or wants. Atleast in Beaumont, he wouldn't have to "go to town" for everything.

I am quite sure I know A LOT more about what goes on in Beaumont than you ... in fact I'm positive I do. I even know what doesn't make the news.

No where in Beaumont is safe. The "go to town" deal is relative ... living in Lumberton adds 5 - 10 minutes to any shopping area in Beaumont.

He might not to live in Liberty if he gets a job along the Houston Ship Channel. Baytown is the polar opposite of Katy if you don't mind the industry in the area. (It's closer to Houston and far enough from Beaumont.)
