A move to the Austin, TX area is on the horizon in the next year or so and I need some advise. We are moving from the Chicago suburbs and are trying to find an area for us and also my parents. My parents will be in an active retirement community and I think I may have found that in Georgetown. We would like to be within 30 minutes or so.

I am hoping to keep my job and work remotely, my husband is a self employed airbusher/painter so we would like to be in an area that supports that culture. We are looking into Georgetown, Round Rock, Salado, Leander - any other suggestions? Just me, my husband and our dogs. We want to enjoy the outdoors (over snow here in IL. With that said, want to be close to commerce in the event that we have to find employment. Looking to be near good restaurants, things to do, dog friendly. Any suggestions on where we should concentrate our efforts? What can we expect - is it hard to meet new people in the 40+ range?
Open to new home communities or something funky - help!

Georgetown is probably more for the Austin forum, since the two towns are close by and in the same region. Regardless, I hope you find the information you are looking for.

Maybe do more research online into the towns you mentioned, especially looking at demographics data. Georgetown possibly does have a slightly older population, and potentially more retirees. Keep in mind to maybe avoid Temple/Belton and the military base, to minimize noise and aircraft activity.

Georgetown or Salado would likely be a good fit. Salado is more arty; Georgetown has the Goodwater Trail around Lake Georgetown and easy access to Austin and its amenities as well as Sun City and other retirement communities. As C24L said, what's your budget, and what are you looking for in the way of housing?

We moved here January 2018 and live in Georgetown and we love it. The parks are great!!!! We are in our 40's and have kids 15 and under. There's lots to do within a short drive and also in Georgetown. I've met many people but haven't built any real friendships yet but that's not to say it won't happen. People are very friendly. I assume your parents have found Sun City. There are lots of new builds that can put you close to them still and since you don't have to worry about schools I think your options are endless. We are building in Morningstar in Georgetown. It has trails, a pond, dog park and amenities. Garey Park is a new park and it has a dog park and is beautiful. I would say if you want to be really close to your parents and still within proximity to other things then Georgetown would be great!!!!!
