What's it like?

Are the areas near the water full of mosquitoes?

Is there any light rail in the plans for travel to Houston? Not as a daily commute - too far.

Are there nice breezes off the bay - or is it hot muggy 5 months a year?

What are the rural parts South on the bay like?

Any info would be appreciated.

Also post your question in the Houston forum.

I drive through there often. I drive from the Houston area to the Beaumont area. I have a relative living in Mont Belvieu in Chambers County. The climate/terrain there is exactly the same as where I live now, and where I grew up.

You don't have to live near water. Most living areas are not near water. Mosquitoes are unavoidable, but can be significantly worse near water. However I have been lucky to experience very few mosquitoes in the past 2-3 years or so.

The light rail expansion is slower than a glacier. We are hoping for expansion to the suburbs in our lifetime. Chambers County falls outside the suburbs, so I'd say that's a no.

It can be hot and muggy. Not sure about breezes off the bay. The times I have been near the bay the breezes are still hot. Imagine driving down the highway with the windows down in the summer. I would not say it's muggy 5 months out of the year, but then again my perception comes from me growing up in this part of the state. That being said, you get cool breezes from incoming rain storms. Those are absolutely divine on a hot summer day.

Anahuac isn't one of the most desirable places. But it's not considered a no-go place, either. You could do far worse. Mont Belvieu is growing rapidly (wealthy school district), but no indication that growth could spill into Anahuac.
