Hello,
I'm a female, 30 y/o middle school teacher. I live in Wichita, KS currently. I like it fairly well, but I've been exploring warmer options. I travel during the summer anyway, so I'd rather live somewhere that has mild winters during the school year. I want to minimize below-freezing temps. My dad also recently moved to Dallas, so I would have family in proximity.

It's important to me that I be near a group of people that values health, wellness, environmentalism and/or spirituality (aside from organized religion). Doesn't have to be all of those things, but I obviously want to find friends with similar interests. I also enjoy live music, particularly indie rock, metal, electronic, etc. Wichita doesn't have much that I've mentioned in this paragraph, so my standards are somewhat low

Apparently hit a character limit.. basically I just added that Austin is probably out for a sub $55k single person, unless my research is missing something.

Sounds like Dallas and environs would be the perfect place for you. Warmer weather, check. Lots of people your age, check. Family near, check. Culture, check. Dallas is a sophisticated city but if you don't like big city life there are plenty of suburbs and smaller towns near.

You could do Austin if you were willing to get a roommate, or live in a less trendy part of town.

I do think inner city life in Dallas would overwhelm me on a daily basis, although it's fun to visit. Which suburbs do you think would be good ones to explore?

I dont think West Texas would work for the OP.A large part of West Texas is not really into environmentalism for the most part. Also, West Texans tend to be pretty into organized religion.

Well, frankly, I wouldn't get into a really small town situation. Just remember that Texas is full of small towns that are very conservative. Not much culture or night life. Plenty of religion, plenty of small-town thinking, so the farther you get away from the big city the more of this you'll see (I'm allowed to say this because I'm from just such a small Texas town).
