Most of my friends say that you cannot enroll a kid in Kindergarten if he /she is less than the cut off of 5 years by Sep 1 of that year. Is it true or is there any way to bypass this situation?

I know for sure that you can do something like a assessment test or worst case studying in a private school for up to 2 years in other states.

Please let me know how we can bypass this strict rule to get my kid to KG. I do not want to waste his 1 year just because he is not 5 yrs on Sep 1.

Why would you want to make your child - a son - be the very youngest in every grade he will be entering? What in the world are you "wasting" here? Why not give him the advantage he is born into, through his birth month, making him among the oldest in his class?

Honestly, it will be to his advantage. Why are you denying him that privilege he has lucked in to?

I dare to disagree: of course, each kid is different, but generally, ambitious, well intellectually developed younger kids, experience positive effects from being in a relatively more mature environment - in striving to catch up with their others, they often end up surpassing them. This was my own school experience as well. I was the youngest and most of the times I was #1 or 2 in class.

It would be better for kids to be tested and evaluated for placement, rather than going strictly by age. Not all kids are the same by the age. Some are more or less developed physically and intellectually, and some less.
In a class, the teachers mostly level to the weakest link. It's a loss for the smarter kids

I didn't read this, but there is something like a competitive application process that will be implemented for the 2020-2021 commissioner-approved alternative kindergarten diagnostic tool.

Maybe that ^^^ helps?

More to read, and this looks promising:

I think the 'allowance' of kids into K early is district (and maybe even school) dependent. You will need to talk to the principal of the school you would attend.

Oh, and every school pretty much has a parents' Facebook group. If you are zoned to a school, they will likely let you join the group and ask questions.
