Corpus residents voted to approve bond issues for schools, streets, redevelopment of the downtown area. Finally the residents have decided to fund the growth and improvements that new residents have asked for.

Here's a question. I have no idea whether or not the growth and improvements are really necessary - no dog in that particular fight - but why on earth should the current residents fund those things that those moving into town ask for, if it's not something they want already themselves?

If someone moved themselves into your house and started demanding that you do and pay for major renovations because THEY would like them or because it's like the house they moved from, would you find that to be appropriate behavior on their part? This kind of attitude towards cities on the part of people who move there is simply the same thing on a grander scale.

People who have relocated to Corpus in the past 5 years are the future and for the most part paying the highest property taxes (more than 80% buy new homes) and with growth the infrastructure (schools, streets, fire stations and commercial development) needs to be improved to satsify the increased demand. Nothing wrong with change as this past election proved most want it.

Tyler

Good: Growing (100,000+ city 200,000+ metro) Nice place for retirees & families, First rate medical care, Pretty progressive, No city debt, Lots of natural beauty...rolling hills/lakes/trees/rose capital of the world, Big city amenities in a smaller package, 3 colleges (1 of them all Black)

Bad: The only two public high schools are horrible, crime is a little high, Shopping could be much better, Way too many traffic lights & no freeways, Not enough to do for younger people in their teens & 20's, city doesn't do near enough to lure high profile corporate businesses

In Between: Decent grade schools, Old money Southern Baptists & Ultra Conservative mindset still runs this town though that is slowly fading

For both Houston and Dallas--

Pros--affordability, cuisine, culture, diversity, being located in a great state (despite the politics), and the people

Cons--weather, insufficient rapid transit, not the best scenery/architecture, poor image

No go ahead.... I was kinda shocked someone actually brought this back.

Last time someone responded, Obama wasn't even in office yet.
