Then, in my humble and equally worthless opinion, it is a two-way tie between the Pace commerical LoneStar brought up and the "nother country" ad of yours, Case!

A little neat story (or so I think) as to that Texas tourist theme you mention. Back in the late 80's, when the ad was in its hey-day, I was at a Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting, and a visitor from Alabama was present. He was stationed at the local Air Force base and had been an SCV member back in his home town before he joined.

Anyway, after the meeting, we had a few beers together and got into a conversation/discussion/debate of (surprise! LOL) where/what is the modern day "South." Afterwards, we walked out into the parking lot (it was summertime and still daylight). Both of us acknowledged the others' points, but what I will never forget is him saying something like:

"You have to understand, I am from south Alabama, and really, I don't think of Texas as truly Southern if compared to where I am from. But hell, I don't include Arkansas or Virginia and for sure not Florida either. Oh for sure, there are lots of Southern things about Texas and I feel much more at home here than I do when stationed out west of up north...."

At this point I started to interupt, but before I did, he cut me off.

..."But"...he looked around and pointed at the Texas Flag flying on the pole outside the hotel parking lot (we rented out a room for our meetings at the local Sheraton Inn)..."did you ever think that I be JEALOUS? I mean, Texas is...just...a different COUNTRY! I have NEVER met people prouder of being where they are from than I have here in Texas."

Welllll, what does one say to THAT?

I'm English- not British, not European.

I've worked in different parts of the US, but had the immense pleasure of living in the Great State of Texas.

I love the history of the State and the fact it was a Republic with Embassies in Europe.

I meet many Americans in my line of work back in England and fiercely point out the many delights of the State especialy to those who denegrate the place and yet have not been there.

there was some lone star beer commercial on the radio in austin back in the mid-late 70's.
Great tune, ...you and me and harina tortilla, all night long... or something like that. I had some local radio music on a cassette from then - that was great. I dont know what happened to it, but like a slice out of austin back then. Let me tell you bean & cheese nachos with jalapenos and really cold Lone Star beer was outstanding. From the Armadillo World Headquarters! Some real good times. Bill

Don't Mess With Texas!

This is 3 years old, I was hoping to find the old original "Don't Mess With Texas!" ad, but I found several more recent ones.

There were some really bad commercials for all the car dealerships on the "Money-Saving Mile", which was on Northwest Highway and Garland Road.
