Sup,

You do realize there are 17 state prisons in Texas including in the populated Dallas, Harris, and Bexar Counties. If you are going to make that your criteria for ruling out an area to live you are ruling out some desirable locales.

Basically your argument using the prison in Huntsville as a reason not to live there is not really tenable.

Heck, Sugar Land has been considered one of Texas' most desirable suburbs for decades, and it was long known for prison farms, most of which were still around until the last 10-15 years.

When did I do that? All I'm saying is prisons do change the demographics of a town.

According to my friend whose elderly father lived in Huntsville, healthcare there is not great. He had a hard time finding good doctors for his dad there, and eventually ended up moving him back to DFW. If you're willing to drive south to The Woodlands or Houston, yes, there is excellent medical care. My friend did not want to have to drive even further south since he was already driving from DFW.

Conroe is growing really fast, so I'd imagine healthcare in Conroe would be an option that's closer than the Woodlands.
