Austin is proof positive that a city can be perceived as great but not have a pro sports team.
You took an old picture of San Antonio and new picture of Austin.

Population:

Austin
2,254,055
+537,766

San Antonio
2,566,404
+423,896

Austin will catchup with San Antonio in population in 30 or so years. Texas demographic center thinks it will be 2048.

Austin has always been growing but seems like faster and higher profile growth happening lately. I think it has more to do with what California has done to run businesses off and Austin as a tech hub in Texas has been the beneficiary

How is that close at all? I felt like Austin had a clearly bigger skyline even 15-20 years ago before the latest skyscraper boom. Now there is a massive difference. Austin has 3-4 times as many tall buildings as San Antonio in general.

San Antonio has the higher population of course, and it's the bigger city historically, which is evident in various ways. But I'd say that Austin functions as the bigger city for the most part today. (Mainly because it has a notably bigger economy with a gap that grows every year).

That is very bizarre to me.

You think NHL is less popular than MLS in most of the south?

Austin has far more white collar jobs. Not just tech.

No they don't. I know you've got an axe to grind based on your posting history, and love to suggest that people of San Antonio are so many unenlightened rubes, but I do not know a single SA area resident that thinks Austin is larger than San Antonio.

If you grew up in Texas you still probably think SA is the bigger city. If you are a young college student in let's say Florida or Colorado, then you probably hear about Austin a lot in the media so it will seem bigger.

Austin's skyline definitely is more modern than San Antonio's but c'mon that's clearly an older picture of SATX.
