I live in San Antonio and most people here seem to think Austin is the larger city of the two.

Physical Size: San Antonio is built in a circle while Austin is stretched WAY out SW to NE.

Economy: Due to COL and different industries, Austin's economy is larger than San Antonio's.

Population: San Antonio is still larger by 400,000.

Perception: Austin is the biggest and best city in Texas according news and the rest of the country.

I don’t think that is common at all. Most people as far as I’m concerned understand that Austin is smaller but more popular and more important economically

Outside of Texas perhaps, but I think Texans have a pretty healthy knowledge that Austin is smaller than San Antonio.

If Austin is seen as bigger than San Antonio, that’s a possibility. But the news and rest of the country in no way thinks Austin is bigger than Houston or Dallas. San Antonio? Maybe. But people see Austin as that city thats ”smaller but better than Houston and Dallas”

It sure looks bigger and more modern in pictures.
Austin is proof positive that a city can be perceived as great but not have a pro sports team.

Similarly...many of us would think that San Jose is smaller than San Francisco!

MLS is not a premier sports league though. MLS is a distant 5th for a reason. Best soccer players in the world go to Europe. NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL have the best players in the world of their sport.

I can't see how anyone could confuse the large size difference between those two cities. Maybe if they only had been to one and not the other, but a simple visit to both should make it blatantly clear.
