My family and I are considering moving to Texas from California. Im terrified of tornados and was wondering what part of Texas has the least chance of a tornado happening?

I would just guess West Texas has the least Tornadoes.

Really they're not that big of a deal here. We rarely (if ever) get those huge mile wide ones you see in places like Kansas.

tornados should be the least of your concerns. just look at the population of Texas, and how few people die as a direct result of a tornado each year! probably as much chance of you getting a direct hit as winning the lottery or dying from an earthquake in California

Default EAST of I-35

Haa Maruaweka,

Anything east of I-35 is usually safe from tornadoes.

Del Rio on the Rio Grande has 3-4 tornadoes a year.

The Comanche Lodge is conical for a reason!

This needs to be qualified a bit, as parts of western Texas do get quite a few tornadoes, relatively speaking. The trans-pecos area of west Texas is comparatively safe, though.

I have to respectfully disagree with this. Tornadoes in Texas are no different in terms of size or power than they are anywhere else in Tornado Alley.

Houston/Gulf Coast region, never seen a tornado in person. Galveston had a few minimal (F0 or F1) waterspouts form last year and it made the breaking, real-time news. One touched down and it did some moderate damage to a car dealership. That's about as bad as it gets here.

I've been in Dallas for 50 years and I have never seen a tornado.

I asked my mother, she's 60 (and she's been in Dallas/Mesquite for all those, except for 2 years in Houston)...and she's never seen one either...she remembers the 57 tornado, but she didn't see it...
