How come public schools have higher debt than private schools? In which world SMU is less expensive than UTD unless you have a full ride worth of financial aid?

I don't get SMU. I once asked about tuition for a graduate degree from SMU. I almost passed out.

Look at UH right up there with UTD and TTech. All the UH haters need to take notice of this.

Also Lamar should be up there for their engineering program:

You can find Lamar alumni all over oil/gas, medical, and in aerospace in the greater Houston area.

Private schools do a good job of helping students secure scholarships and have alumni boards that gu raise like hell to make things affordable.

I'd guess that everyone at SMU is either on full rides or has wealthy parents (the latter being the vast majority). UTD probably has more people in the middle who have to take on debt.

This article is very flawed if it thinks SMU is the 3rd best value. That is really ridiculous; it's an extremely expensive mediocre education... The only one that might be worse is Baylor. It seems like the real ROI is wealthy parents, which isn't too surprising.

The study referenced by the piece is legit. With methods published in the study, however, the data is pretty stale at this point.

What's your beef with SMU?
