We pay about $150/month on maintenance. I am told my saltwater pool is easily maintainable, but I do not have the time. Avoild houses with older pools - they may need resurfacing and/or new equipment. Pay the home inspector extra to check out the pool properly. Avoid pools with many trees closeby (leaves are a issue). Try to get saltwater pools - much easier on your skin. Plan $50-75/mo in extra electricity costs (pumps etc) - including in the winter in Dallas (pumps come on to avoid freezing and lines breaking). Drowning accidents are more common than most people think - be careful as accidents can happen in a few seconds. Hope I have not scared you. Pool is super fun in the summer, enjoy it On days like these, nothing beats walking into the pool in your backyard. We are going to be moving to a new house and have decided to build a pool there.
