All things being equal, it really comes down to water.

Neither city really took off until the major reservoirs were put in in the 50s.

Houston has an absolute advantage because it is near the Gulf and a nuke plant could easily desalinated more than enough water.

DFW still can triple its acre-feet of water with the new reservoirs on the books.

OTOH, birth rates in developed nations drop as women become educated. As globalization continues, my guess is that DFW and Houston will peak in the next 50 years then begin a decline. That is if cheap longitivity treatment does not become a reality.

This is a very valid point. McAllen, Brownsville and all them smaller towns and cities will boom, and become the next big mecca like Houston I predict.. Heck just because of being next to Mexico, and the way free trade and the international highway.. it all leads to a bigger boom in those areas.

case44, I don't have any issues with Midland.. it was an honest question. Also Air Ports are a thing of the past.. new bigger air ports wont be built, unless we find a way to power them cheaper than with gas. I have already heard problems with the expansions at the EP Air Port because of airlines making their fleets smaller and dropping some terminals all together.. El Paso is one of those places.. with out the airlines, the air port has little funding.

Waco!

I agree. Waco/Temple/Killeen will grow and end up absorbing Austin and DFW.

^^You mean, being absorbed by Austin and DFW .

But honestly, I doubt it touches DFW. DFW is growing the opposite direction. Austin on the other hand, is speeding north as Temple/Killeen, grow south.

Thats your belief.. I don't buy much into the doom and gloom stuff. Now I am sure you'll pull the old Mayan Calendar out and say something along the lines they had the best most accurate calendar ever, and they say the Earth will end in 2012 or some such nonsense. We shall see.
