this article is about the rush to install wind turbines in upstate NY state--a fairly rural area most people are not that familiar with compared to the well known areas of Manhatten/NYC and its buroughs...
this article reveals how the surge in leasing land and installing wind turbines to take advantage of the desire for alternative energy has caused problems included greed and corruption in local politics

Knowing that TX has a history of not being exactly adverst to taking advantage of those two items itself--I just wonder if anyone is wondering/caring/planing how to deal with the new surge in projects planned in TX and offshore -- like Boone Pickens wind farm strategy and others that could crop up...

this construction started in sort of a vacuum of leadership both on a state and local level
In some ways similar to the multiple rules/regs for Barnett Shale drilling in this area--a la the FTW regulations regarding where gas transmission lines are allowed to go and gas drilling regulations which are now under review for about the third time...with local authorities not really willing to have a communal approach to running gas transmission lines, drilling variances, noise levels, water usage...

NY state has created a plan to buy/subsidise energy from wind turbines which makes it much more financial feasible for companies to persue these farms without being able to bankroll years of down-side...

Sounds like 'business as usual'. I say 'go for it'. If we don't -start- somewhere we'll never get where we're going. We have elected officials locally and a state legislature to regulate. And elections to voice our complaints.

Not everybody is going to be happy with the results everyday. Majority rules.

that attitude pretty much sums up my concern about moving into this new energy system---sounds like it is ripe to be just as centered on big business's needs as big oil is now
there is nothing to keep solar/wind providers from putting the screws to the people who are the end users--US--just because the wind blows freely all over the planet does not mean it blows for free...just because the sun shines does not mean people will get inexpensive energy...

Of course there will be profit on wind energy. It also will be very expensive to setup and maintain. Buty in the end we need the energy,

What are your proposed alternatives? Big government? Return to dark ages? Well, I guess those are the same thing.

Energy isn't going to get cheaper. Not even if the U.S. invaded Saudi Arabia. I guess we could all stay home and dip candles.
