I was not implying that it was I was just saying I was surprised no one was complaining saying that Lucidus was implying it.

SmartGXL, I agree with you. I don't support socialism anyway, just because of the affects it has had on European countries. I know alot of Texans as well that think Texas would be a wonderful place as its own nation and would love to have Ron Paul as the first president. I don't really think that is going to happen but if it did I would not be unhappy, but I guess that depends on how it was going.

I don't think anyone thinks that a communist government in Texas is even remotely possible. Texas would be least likely state to ever embrace socialism and the Soviet Union is long dead. There are young people starting college now with no memories of the USSR.

My kids (elem and jr high age) DO know what the USSR is or was. I was fortunate to be able to travel there back in the 80's as well as to a few other THEN Communist countries. They go thru all of our picture albums all the time and I've explained it to them. With the Olympics on now and the "new" countries competing that were once part of the USSR I've had even more opportunity to explain such to them. Guess I'm just one of those Texans that likes to explore and hand down history to my kids.

Lucidus never said there are kids that don't know what the USSR was he just said that have no memory of it.

Anyone know why Mexico is spelled Мексика but New Mexico is spelled Нью-Мексико?

I'm guessing Мексика is the Russian word for Mexico. New Mexico isn't on their radar enough to have a Russian word for it, so it makes sense to just use the English word.

What he means is that
Мексика = Mexico
Нью-Мексико = New Mexico
both have the word 'Mexico' in them but they are spelled differently...
It might have to do with the Spanish pronunciation but there is little difference at the end between Meh-hee-ko (spanish) and meh-x-ih-ko (english)
