Hi.

What are the good things and bad things about Waco TX?

Is the neighborhood safe?

Are there many big retail stores there?

Best tip of all: DON'T listen to all the Waco bashing! It is probably THE most underrated place in all of Texas. Waco has some good stuff!

I grew up in Waco. Across from Baylor is the most dangerous place. To be blunt and honest, lots of crack houses, and crack heads. So when in the area, don't be surprised to be approached by them. Hewitt/Woodway will probably be your best bet. The job market is not very good in that the lack of pay will ensure you a future commute to another city or a move alltogether, unless you are a Dr. or professor, in that case Waco is surprisingly good! Waco is a working town, which means good people in general. However, there is really NOTHING to do within about a, lets s see how far is Austin, 100 mile radius!!!
But like I said, there are great people in Waco, and friends will stay close and loyal. Some of my best friends, after having been away since '03 are still my Waco friends!

waco and surrounding areas would be a nice place to retire.
positives: low cost of living, no traffic (small commute to work if you live outside of Waco)
negatives: high property crime rate, boring town, not many jobs, bad drivers
neutral: feels like you stepped back in time. this can be considered good or bad depending on who you ask. very conservative feel, again good or bad depending on your personality.

lots more, but those are just some simple pros and cons

Thanks for everyone's input!

I am looking at places near this street called "Wagon Wheel Circle".

I was told that Waco TX is a big college town. Isn't that a good thing, in general?
