Hello:

I have searched for threads for job outlook in these areas but they seem a bit out of date and they don't compare these two cities. I finished my B.S. degree in urban planning/ art minor last year. I am open to most types of jobs: government related, urban planning, admin work, temping, art related (galleries, studios).... Anyway, I am just wondering if you would say Austin or Dallas has a better outlook for a recent college grad in their mid-twenties? I have been in Austin staying at my sisters for about two weeks at the market here seems tough. Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

I think they are about the same really. Dallas probably has more actual job openings but that is just because the city is bigger. I would stay in austin since your sister lives there and lets you stay there. If you moved you would probably have to pay more rent so on. In this day and age you don't to be paying thousands in cost of living expense while unemployed.

Make sure to read up on the Austin economy and apply to all the largest employers:

Good luck.

I have always thought the job market in Austin is tougher than Dallas, recession or not. Austin is a more desirable place to live, but has less jobs. (I have lived in both, went to UT Austin.)
