I was bored and started googling in-n-out expansion and I came across this forum:

In-N-Out > Whataburger
In-N-Out > Prince's Burger
In-N-Out = Beck's Prime

We'll see about that, my friend. There's so much competition in our state and it's already a crowded market with Steak-n-Shake having moved in. And Whataburger is here to stay; they're not going anywhere. So we'll find out if In-N-Out can make the inroads you think it deserves.

In N Out = Overrated.

In SoCal, living there for four years, I probably ate at In N Out...like 5 times in that span! Carl's Jr was actually more to my liking.

And to In N Out = Beck's? PUH-leez. Beck's has REAL burgers...something they lack in SoCal for some reason.

So months after Carl's Jr entering the Texas market, In-N-Out is trying to do the same. Interesting lol.

Well, when A&M started working on "not hot" jalapenos for the northern crowd, that was a harbinger of things to come, after all.
